The Thalia Top is a reversible lace boat neck knit top, perfect for a warm spring day and the summer sun. This design features an elegant repeating lace motif providing an airy and light fabric, allowing the top to be both breathable yet providing sufficient coverage. Due to the nature of the lace pattern, the body is knit from the bottom up, working the picot edge hem then jumping right into knitting the lace pattern. The front and back are separated at the underarm and worked flat. An optional keyhole detail can be worked on one side, for an extra detail to be worn on the front or back due to the reversibility of the design. Modification options for fit adjustment, length adjustment, and using different yarn weights are included.

The model is wearing size 3 in red with a bust circumference of 81 cm [32 inches] and 2.5 cm [1 inch] of positive ease.

Gauge:

26 stitches x 36 rows = 10 x 10 cm [4 x 4 inches] in blocked lace stitch pattern on 3 mm [US 2.5] needles.

Suggested needles:

Lace: 3mm [US 2.5] circular needles.
Picot edge & i-cord: 2.5 mm [US 1] circular needles.

Suggested yarn:

150, 200, 200, 200 (250, 250, 250, 300) 300, 300, 350, 350 g fingering weight yarn.
535, 715, 715, 715 (890, 890, 890, 1070) 1070, 1070, 1250, 1250 m / 585, 780, 780, 780 (975, 975, 975, 1170) 1170, 1170, 1365, 1365 yds fingering weight yarn.

Difficulty:  2/5  - Suitable for knitters with an advanced beginner or greater skill level. You should be able to read knitting charts and complete basic lace stitches.

Size Guide

The Thalia Top is designed with 0-4 cm [0-1½ inches] of positive ease. Positive ease refers to the measurement of the final garment being larger than the initial measurement.

Sizes 1, 2, 3, 4 (5, 6, 7, 8) 9, 10, 11, 12 are based on an initial chest circumference of  61-65, 70.25 - 74.25, 79.5-83.5, 88.75-92.75 (98-102, 107.25-111.25, 116.5-120.5, 125.75-129.75) 134.75-138.75, 144-148, 153.25-157.25, 162.5-166.5 cm [24-25½, 27¾-29¼, 31¼-32¾, 35-36½ (38½-40¼, 42¼-43¾, 45¾-47½, 49½-51) 53-54¾, 56¾-59¼, 60¼-62, 64- 65½ inches].

To choose your size:

 

  1. Measure your chest at its widest circumference, making sure the measuring tape is snug but not too tight. You should be able to fit a finger underneath the measuring tape.
  2. Add 0-4 cm [0-1½ inches] to this measurement to account for positive ease.
  3. Use the resulting measurement when selecting your size. 

    For example, if your chest circumference measures 100 cm [ inches], knit a size 6. If you are in between sizes, it is recommended that you choose the larger size. If this results in too much positive ease for your preference, refer to the Different Yarn Weight modification for gauge adjustments.
